TAYBAN INSPECTION CHAMBERS
Inspection chambers have been produced in substantial quantities since the early 1960's and their use has been approved by the Water Board, Local Authotities and Government Departments. Our products are regularly installed by the trade in general and by many of the largest national building contractors.
Only first grade aggregates are used in manufacture and by using modern machinery and vibratory equipement, quality concrete in excess of 28kg/cm² (4000 Ibs/in²) is assured.
The wall thickness of our units is greater than that recommended in B.S. and this has been done to produce a robust chamber without the use of steel rienforcement. The possibility of eventual damage of cracking by rust corrosion is, therefore, totally eliminated; where there is a known presance of acid in the soil we can further guard against this by supplying units made with sulphate resisting concrete.
Watertightness
Attention is drawn to the fact that certain authorities have insisted that the shaft should be backfilled with concrete around the manhole or chamber for its full depth, irrespective of the location or ground conditions. There is no justification for this except where the chamber is situated in the ground with a high water table or is subjected to heavy live loads. Works and site testing shows that the rebated joints when properly mortared give a strong and waterproof union between sections, thus eliminating infiltration.
British Standards
The company wishes to confirm that all our units are produced to comply with Building drainage (CP301). concrete cylindrical pipes and fittings (BS556 part ll) where applicable and BS5911 PART 2 1982, PRECAST CONCRETE PIPES AND FITTINGS FOR DRAINAGE AND SEWARAGE.
Load Bearing
In accordance with BS 5911 Part 2 Tayban crown units and concrete lids are suitable for use in areas of light, i.e., normal pedestrian and occasional wheel loads not exceeding 1 tonne (10 kn). A specially designed heavy duty crown unit for higher loads is also available
